I just wanted a prayer-time reminder on my Mac. That’s it.
So I started looking. Almost everything was paid, some even as subscriptions, for prayer times. The free ones felt heavy: full windows, dashboards, settings buried inside settings, sign-up screens. All that for something I only need to glance at a few times a day.
I didn’t want another app to open. I wanted one quiet line in my menu bar that tells me which prayer is next and how much time I have.
So I spent an afternoon building it. One line in the menu bar, the full schedule one click away, and nothing else in the way. It calculates everything offline on your Mac: no account, no network, no tracking.
I called it Munada (منادى), which means “the caller”, the one who calls to prayer. It’s free, open source under the MIT license, and lightweight by design.
The Prophet ﷺ was asked, “Which deed is most beloved to Allah?” He replied, “Prayer at its earliest fixed time.” (Sahih al-Bukhari)

Under the hood
Munada is a native AppKit app written in Swift, using Adhan for the prayer time calculation. The menu bar updates once a minute, aligned to the start of each minute, so it stays light on your battery.
